You will definitely need to get your bible out to make the most of this one! Jilly Lyon Taylor continues the Nehemiah series in chapter 9 as the people return to God, His Word and His ways. She speaks about the importance of being in the Word of God, fasting, worshipping God for who He is, and recounting what God has done in our lives and what He has promised us individually and corporately.
Jilly speaks of thanking God for all that He gives us, for His presence that is always with those who walk in His ways, and of the importance of taking the land that is our inheritance as God's children. She also warns us not to forget the Lord in times that are not so difficult or challenging, but to remember His faithfulness and to honour Him.
As Jilly works through Nehemiah chapter 9 she brings out a wealth of practical points, providing us with many things that we can apply today to enrich our relationship with God.
Jilly finishes with a challenge to pursue unity, for there God commands His blessing, even life forevermore. She explains that our anointing flows out of unity, as do many aspects our spiritual well-being and ability to bear much fruit. Jilly likens the people of God working together in unity to an orchestra being in harmony together, beautifully in tune with God.
"How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!
It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the LORD bestows his blessing,
even life forevermore."
- Psalm 133 (NIV)
